Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Met and greet on arrival and transferred to the Hotel in Nairobi.

Nairobi, Kenya’s Capital is a well-planned modern city of over two million inhabitants.  It is justly described as a garden city as its broad avenues are lined with flowering plants and shrubs.  Situated at an altitude of 1600 metres, it enjoys hot sunny days and cool evenings. Places of interest to the visitor include the Municipal Market, the ornate Jamia Mosque and the National Museum with its adjacent Snake Park and Aviary. There are several art galleries exhibiting work by local artists, displays of tribal dancing, two theatres, and variety of good restaurants and wealth of fascinating curio shops, dinner on own arrangement and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Nairobi  The Solio Reserve

This morning, we leave for the Highlands of Kenya, one of the most fertile and productive areas of the country, with its abundance of springs and rivers flowing from Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare ranges. Our journey takes us past vast plantations of coffee and tropical fruits such as bananas, pineapples and passion fruit; we then cross the Tana River (the longest river in Kenya, which drains into the Indian Ocean) before arriving at the the Solio lodge. After lunch at the hotel, game drives at the Solio Ranch dinner and overnight at The Solio Lodge.

Solio Lodge is located on a private wildlife sanctuary, tucked in the valley between the lofty slopes of Mount Kenya and the peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, directly north of Nairobi. This intimate and luxurious lodge opened in August 2010 and remains the only guest accommodation on the incredible 45,000-acre Solio Game Reserve. The Solio Reserve is internationally recognized as the most successful private rhino breeding reserve in Kenya and visitors will find that sightings of up to 40 rhinoceros at a time are not uncommon.

Day 3: Solio Reserve  Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Ol pejeta conservancy for lunch at Porini Tented Camp, afternoon game drive, with a visit to the tamed Baraka Rhinoceros and the Chimpanzee Orphanage (subject to weather conditions as the black cotton soil on the Sanctuary is very firm during the dry weather and sometimes impassable during the rainy season), dinner and overnight at Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy Mount Kenya National Park

After breakfast at the camp, morning drive en route to the foot of Mount Kenya, the highlands of Kenya, dominated by the spectacular view of the highest mountain in the country, Mt. Kenya, standing at 5,199metres.

The three peaks of the mountain got their names from the Maasai people who lived in the Highlands barely 100 years ago. Batian, the highest peak, is the name of the ancient guiding spirit of the people who spoke the Maa language. The lesser peaks are named after his sons, Nelion and Lenana. The mountain then fell under Kikuyu rule, and their legend recounts that their God Ngai dwells on the mountain, and oversees a host of lesser Gods, who in turn watch over the villagers living around the mountain.

At the Club, former home of the actor William Holden, we have a free afternoon to enjoy some of the activities on offer. These include walks around the beautiful landscaped grounds, full of exotic birds, or alternatively, we could play golf, have a swim in the pool, play tennis, and go for horse-riding, visit the animal orphanage etc, Dinner and overnight at Mount Kenya Safari Club.

Please note: Smart casual wear is required for dinner in the main dining room. No jeans, short trousers, T-Shirts, sports shoes etc are permitted.

Day 5: Fly Mount Kenya  Maasai Mara Game Reserve

After breakfast at the Club, morning transfer to Nanyuki Airstrip for a schedule light aircraft flight to Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

This morning, descend the Great Rift Valley, flying to the south, past the volcanic mountains of Longonot and Suswa. We approach the Loita Plains, where from the air; it is possible to observe the circular manyattas (Maasai villages) before finally arriving at the great Serengeti plains, in whose northern part is found the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

On arrival at Mara Airstrip, met and transferred to by camp vehicle 4×4, afternoon game viewing drive in camp vehicle 4×4, lunch, dinner & overnight camp.

Situated in Maasia territory, this park gets its name from the Mara River. In contrast with most of the rivers in the African savannah, the river has a permanent flow of water throughout the year, attracting a great variety of wildlife. This guarantee of water, especially during the dry season, hosts great numbers of herbivores: zebras, wildebeest, Thompson and Grant gazelles, hartebeest, topis, buffalos, elephants etc, converting the park into the one region in the world with the highest concentration of wildlife. Obviously, such a huge supply of meat attracts a host of predators. We could see lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and jackals.

The possibilities of capturing these animals on camera, and being a witness to the developments of life in the savannah, are very high. However, the Mara is not a zoo. We cannot say for sure that we will see each and every animal. The experience gives us a feeling of tracking and searching for animals, which is exciting in itself. Meals and overnight at the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Day 6: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Morning and afternoon game drives and Meals and overnights at the camp. During the first hours of the morning, the savannah is filled with a special animation. This is when the larger predators hunt for their food, before the temperature becomes too hot for any excessive physical activity. This is the time we have the highest chances of watching a hunt in action (also likely in the early evening). The colours of the landscape are also more accentuated, and help us to take great photographs. Meals and overnight at the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Day  07: Fly Maasai Mara Nairobi – Airport

Breakfast at the camp, transfer to the Airstrip for a scheduled light aircraft flight to Nairobi, on arrival at Wilson Airport, met and transferred to hotel in Nairobi (use of room is excluded),later, transfer to the Airport for or scheduled International departure flight, 3 hours prior to flight departure time.
